If an LG TV does nothing when you press Power, the standby light is the first clue. A lit standby light means the TV has power but is not starting. No light usually means the TV is not receiving power or has a power-board problem.
These steps apply to LG smart TVs running webOS, including OLED, NanoCell, QNED, and many UHD models.

Use this if the LG TV shows no logo, sound, flash, or response when you press power on the remote or the TV itself.
Check standby light and power-cycle
- Look for the standby light near the bottom edge or underside of the TV.
- If the light is off, check the outlet and power cable first.
- Plug the TV directly into a wall outlet instead of a power strip.
- Unplug the TV from the wall.
- Hold the physical power button on the TV for 15 to 20 seconds.
- Wait 60 seconds, plug it back in, and press the TV’s own power button.
This drains leftover power and clears many frozen webOS states, especially after power outages or failed wake-ups.
Re-pair or bypass the Magic Remote
A Magic Remote pairing problem can make the TV look dead if you only test with the remote.
- Point the Magic Remote at the TV from a few feet away.
- Hold Home or the Wheel/OK button for about five seconds, depending on the model.
- Remove the remote batteries for 10 seconds and reinstall them if pairing fails.
- Try turning on the TV with the physical button or joystick on the back or underside.
If the TV turns on with its own button but not the remote, replace batteries or re-pair the remote before troubleshooting the TV hardware.
Check outlet, surge protector, and cable
- Plug a lamp or phone charger into the same outlet.
- Check any power strip or surge protector for a tripped switch.
- Bypass the strip and connect directly to the wall.
- Try a compatible spare power cable if your LG model uses a removable cable.
If the TV works from the wall outlet, the power strip or surge protector may have failed after a power spike.
When it points to repair
If the standby light stays on and the TV eventually wakes after several minutes, webOS may be freezing. Update the TV when it becomes responsive: Settings > All Settings > General > About This TV > Check for Updates.
Some LG TVs blink the standby light in patterns when an internal component fails. Search LG support for your exact model and LED blink pattern. If the standby light is off with a confirmed working outlet and cable, the internal power supply board may have failed. On older TVs, replacement is often cheaper than board repair.
