LG webOS normally updates apps in the background, but that only works if the TV stays connected to the internet and spends time in standby. If an app is missing features or crashing, check for updates manually.
These steps apply to LG OLED, NanoCell, QNED, UHD, and other LG smart TVs running webOS.
Does this affect you?
Use this if an LG TV app feels outdated, crashes, will not load, or lacks a feature that should be available. App updates are separate from the TV’s system software updates.
Check LG Content Store or LG Apps
- Press Home on the LG remote.
- Open LG Content Store. On newer webOS versions, this may be called LG Apps.
- Open the menu, My Page, My Apps, App Update, or Update Center area.
- If updates are listed, choose Update All or select an individual app and choose Update.
- Reopen the app after updating.
If no updates appear, the installed apps are current and the issue may be a service outage, account issue, or network problem.
Turn on automatic app updates
- Open Settings.
- Go to General or All Settings > General.
- Look for Software Update, Auto Update, or App Auto-Update.
- Turn automatic updates on.
- Leave the TV plugged in, connected to Wi-Fi, and in standby when not in use.
A TV that is always unplugged at the wall will miss many background app and system updates.
Fix a stuck app update
- Unplug the TV from the wall for 30 seconds, then try again.
- Check storage under Settings > General > About This TV or Storage.
- Confirm the network is stable under Settings > General > Network > Network Status.
- If one app will not update, delete it and reinstall the latest version from LG Content Store or LG Apps.
Slow or dropping Wi-Fi is a common reason an update appears stuck partway through.
App updates versus webOS updates
Updating an app does not update webOS itself. If the TV software feels outdated or a release-note feature is missing, check Settings > General > About This TV > Check for Updates or the Software Update menu.
Some major apps update on their own schedule and may appear current even when no LG Content Store update is listed. If an app disappears after a system update, check My Apps before reinstalling; it may only need to be pinned back to the home screen.
