How to Turn Off Voice Guide on Your TV

TV and streaming troubleshooting category image

Voice Guide is an accessibility feature that reads TV menus, settings, and button presses out loud. It is helpful for low-vision viewers, but very annoying if it was turned on accidentally.

Most brands place it in Accessibility settings, though some remotes also include a shortcut that can toggle it quickly.

Does this affect you?

Use this if your TV suddenly talks through every menu item or remote press. It applies to Samsung, LG, Vizio, TCL, Hisense, and many other smart TVs.

Turn it off from Accessibility settings

  1. Press Home or Menu on the remote.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Go to General > Accessibility on Samsung, Accessibility on LG, or System > Accessibility on Vizio, TCL, and Hisense.
  4. Find Voice Guide, Screen Reader, Narrator, or a similar spoken-menu setting.
  5. Switch it Off.

The TV will narrate while you navigate these menus. That is expected and stops as soon as the feature is turned off.

Use a remote shortcut

On many Samsung TVs, holding the Mute button for a few seconds toggles Voice Guide. This is faster than navigating the full menu while narration is active.

LG and other brands vary by remote. Check the Accessibility shortcut area if your TV offers shortcut keys. If there is no shortcut, use the full Settings path slowly and follow the spoken menu prompts.

Do not confuse it with Audio Description

Voice Guide narrates the TV interface. Audio Description, sometimes called Descriptive Audio or AD, narrates action inside a show or movie. That setting usually lives inside the streaming app’s audio or language menu.

If the TV menus are quiet but a show still has narration, open the app playback audio options and choose a normal audio track instead of Audio Description.

Adjust instead of disabling

If someone in the household uses Voice Guide, the same Accessibility menu can usually change speech speed, volume, and verbosity. That can make the feature easier to live with without turning it off completely.
