Smart TV home screens can get crowded with apps you never use. Removing them is usually as simple as opening the app’s options menu and confirming Delete, Remove, or Uninstall.
These steps cover Samsung Tizen, LG webOS, Roku TV, and Amazon Fire TV. Deleting a streaming app removes it from the TV, but it does not delete your Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, or other service account.
Does this affect you?
Use this if you want to clean up the TV home screen, free storage, or remove an app that is broken before reinstalling it. Built-in system apps may only be movable or hideable, which is normal.
Delete apps on Samsung TVs
- Press Home on the Samsung remote.
- Go to the Apps row.
- Highlight the app you want to remove.
- Press and hold Select/OK, or press Down to open the app options menu.
- Choose Delete and confirm.
The icon disappears from the Apps screen. If you reinstall later, you may need to sign back in.
Delete apps on LG, Roku, and Fire TV
On LG webOS, highlight the app on the Home screen, press and hold OK or use the edit icon, then choose the X or Delete option and confirm.
On Roku, press Home, highlight the channel tile, press the Star button, choose Remove channel, and confirm.
On Fire TV, highlight the app from Home, press and hold Select to open options, choose Uninstall, and confirm. You can also remove apps from Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications.
What deleting an app does
Deleting an app removes its local files and usually its saved login from the TV. Your subscription and account remain with the streaming service. Reinstall the app later from the TV’s app store and sign in again.
Removing unused apps can free storage on TVs with limited space. That can help if new app installs fail or the TV warns that storage is low.
Apps you cannot remove
Most TV brands protect certain built-in apps and system functions, such as Settings, Source/Input, Live TV, the manufacturer’s hub, or required system services. Those may be movable, hideable, or fixed in place instead of deletable.
If an app cannot be deleted but can be moved, place it farther down the home screen so the apps you actually use stay visible.
