Fire TV apps store temporary files such as thumbnails, playback data, and sign-in tokens. That cache usually helps apps load faster, but it can become bloated or corrupted and cause freezing, crashes, or stale content.
Clearing cache resets those temporary files without uninstalling the app. It is one of the quickest fixes for a single Fire TV app that misbehaves while the rest of the device works normally.
Does this affect you?
Use this guide if Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu, Disney+, Max, YouTube, or another Fire TV app is slow, stuck on a loading screen, crashing on launch, or not showing new content. These steps apply to Fire TV Stick, Fire TV Cube, and Fire TV Edition smart TVs running Fire OS.
Clear cache for one app
- From the Fire TV Home screen, open Settings.
- Select Applications.
- Select Manage Installed Applications.
- Choose the app that is acting up.
- Select Clear cache.
- Return to the Home screen and reopen the app.
After clearing cache, the cache size should drop to 0 KB or close to it. Most apps keep your login because cache is temporary data, not the app’s main saved data.
Clear data if cache is not enough
Clear data is stronger than clearing cache. It removes saved app settings and usually signs you out of that app.
- Go back to Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications.
- Select the same app.
- Choose Clear data and confirm the warning.
- Open the app again and sign in when prompted.
Use Clear data when the app keeps showing the same old error or broken state even after clearing cache. It resets that app without affecting other apps.
Force stop first if the app is frozen
If the app is currently frozen or will not respond, stop it before clearing cache.
- Open Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications.
- Select the frozen app.
- Choose Force stop.
- Choose Clear cache.
- Relaunch the app from Home.
Force stopping makes sure the app is not still running in the background while Fire TV removes its temporary files.
If several apps are slow
When multiple apps freeze or crash, the issue may be low storage or a sluggish Fire TV device, not one bad cache. Check Settings > My Fire TV > About > Storage. If storage is nearly full, uninstall apps you no longer use.
If one app still fails after Clear data, uninstall it from Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications, restart Fire TV, then reinstall it from the Appstore. For general sluggishness, restart the whole device from Settings > My Fire TV > Restart every so often.
