Can Not Sign in to Netflix on Your TV? Here Is the Fix

Netflix sign-in on a TV can fail for simple reasons: remote-control typos, stale app sessions, network hiccups, or a household verification block. Start with code sign-in so you can avoid typing the password on the TV keyboard.

Does this affect you?

Use this for the Netflix app on Samsung, LG, Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, Vizio SmartCast, and similar TV devices.

Sign in with a TV code instead of typing your password

This avoids the most common TV-login problem: one wrong character from the remote.

  1. Open Netflix on the TV.
  2. Look for Use a code to sign in or a similar option on the sign-in screen. You may need to choose Sign In first.
  3. Leave the code displayed on the TV.
  4. On a phone or computer, go to netflix.com/tvsignin.
  5. Sign in to Netflix normally and enter the code from the TV.
  6. Wait a few seconds for the TV app to sign in automatically.

Reset your password

Use this when the password has been rejected more than once or you are not completely sure it is correct.

  1. On a phone or computer, go to netflix.com and choose Forgot Password.
  2. Enter the email address or phone number on the account.
  3. Check email, spam, junk, or texts for the reset message.
  4. Create a new password that is unique and not reused elsewhere.
  5. Return to the TV and either sign in with the new password or use the TV code method.

Changing the password can also help if someone else may be using the account without permission.

Check for a Household or device-verification block

Sometimes the password is fine, but Netflix does not recognize the TV as part of the account’s household.

  1. Sign in to Netflix on a phone or computer and open Account.
  2. Look for any Netflix Household, device verification, or access prompt.
  3. Follow the verification steps if Netflix sends a code to the account holder.
  4. If you are away from home, review Manage Access and Devices or temporary access options from the account page.

More control

Update or reinstall the app

An old Netflix app can fail to display the code option or complete sign-in. Check the TV or streaming device app store for updates, or uninstall and reinstall Netflix.

Restart the router

A flaky connection can interrupt the sign-in handshake and look like a password problem. Unplug the router for about 30 seconds, reconnect, and try again.

Use Netflix support for account warnings

Messages about unusual account activity, suspension, or payment holds are account-recovery issues, not normal TV sign-in glitches. Use netflix.com/support directly.
