If an app does not appear in your TV app store, it may be a fixable software or region issue. It may also mean the app simply does not support that TV platform. Check compatibility first so you do not chase a setting that cannot add the app.
Does this affect you?
Use this for Samsung, LG, Vizio, TCL, Roku, Fire TV, Google TV, Hisense, and other smart TV app stores when a known app is missing from search results.
Confirm the app supports your TV platform
Start here because not every streaming service builds for every TV system.
- Search the app name plus your TV brand or platform, such as Peacock Samsung TV, Max Roku, or Hulu LG TV.
- Check the app’s official support page for supported TV brands and devices.
- Open Settings > About on the TV to confirm the exact platform. Some TCL and Hisense TVs run Roku OS, some run Google TV, and older models may use different systems.
- If the official support page does not list your platform, the app is not available there right now. Use a workaround instead of repeatedly searching the store.
Update the TV software and app store
Outdated TV software can hide apps that are otherwise compatible.
- On Samsung, check Settings > Support > Software Update.
- On LG, check Settings > General > About This TV > Check for Updates.
- On Roku, Fire TV, Vizio, TCL, Google TV, or Hisense, look for System Update or Software Update under Settings.
- Install updates, restart the TV, then search the app store again using the exact app name.
- On Fire TV or Google TV, clear the app store cache under Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications if the store seems stuck or outdated.
Check region and location settings
App availability can depend on where the TV or account is registered.
- Open Settings > General or System and check Location, Country, or Region.
- Make sure it matches where you actually live and where your streaming account is registered.
- If the TV was set up in another region, correcting it may change which apps appear.
- Remember this is separate from Wi-Fi location. A TV can be physically in one country while configured for another region.
More control
Cast or mirror instead
If no TV app exists, try casting from a phone, using Chromecast built in, Samsung Smart View, AirPlay, or screen mirroring where supported.
Use a streaming device
A Roku, Fire TV Stick, Chromecast with Google TV, or Apple TV plugged into HDMI often has a better app catalog than an older built-in TV platform.
Try the TV browser as a stopgap
Some TVs include a web browser. It is not ideal for daily viewing, but it may work for a service with no native TV app.
