When a phone is missing, the first few minutes matter. Lock it, locate it, and decide whether to erase it before someone can reach accounts, payment cards, or private data.

Use this for iPhones with Find My enabled and Android phones with Find Hub enabled, from any other device with internet access.
Locate, lock, or erase the phone
Start from another phone, tablet, or computer.
- For iPhone, go to icloud.com/find or open Find My on another Apple device and sign in with the Apple ID from the missing phone.
- For Android, go to android.com/find and sign in with the Google Account from the missing phone.
- Check the map. If it appears nearby, use Play Sound or Ring first.
- If it is lost or stolen, enable Lost Mode on iPhone or Secure Device on Android. This locks the phone, can show a contact message, and disables mobile wallet use.
- If recovery looks unlikely, use Erase This Device on iPhone or Erase Device on Android.
- Erase only after accepting that tracking may stop afterward.
- Remember that remote erase does not remove Activation Lock or Google account lock, so the phone still cannot easily be set up by a thief.
Secure accounts and SIM service
A missing phone is also a trusted-device problem.
- Change passwords for email, banking, and important apps that were signed in and easy to open. Start with email.
- Contact your carrier to suspend the SIM if the phone was stolen.
- Ask the carrier about SIM-swap protection or an account PIN.
- Check Apple Pay, Google Pay, saved cards, and purchase history for unauthorized activity.
- Remove the phone from trusted-device lists in Google, Apple ID, banking, social media, and other accounts if you do not expect to recover it.
- File a police report for theft, especially if insurance or carrier claims require one.

Tracking must be enabled before loss
Find My and Find Hub cannot locate, lock, or erase a phone that did not have the feature enabled beforehand. Check those settings while your phone is safe.
Use a strong screen lock
A strong passcode, PIN, or password buys time even without tracking. Biometrics make daily unlock convenient without weakening the underlying lock.
