Phone malware checks work differently on Android and iPhone. Android can run real scanner apps. iPhone security is more locked down, so the right check is profiles, apps, updates, and permissions.

Use this when your phone shows pop-up ads, unknown apps, unusual data use, fast battery drain, or behavior that makes you suspect malware.
Android: run Google Play Protect
Play Protect is built into Android phones with the Play Store.
- Open the Google Play Store.
- Tap your profile icon.
- Choose Play Protect.
- Tap Scan.
- Wait for the result. It usually checks installed apps quickly.
- If a harmful app is flagged, choose Uninstall or Remove.
- If no harmful apps are found, still review your installed apps for anything unfamiliar.
Android: use a second scanner
This is useful if you installed apps from outside the Play Store.
- Open the Play Store and search for Malwarebytes Mobile Security.
- Install it from the official listing.
- Open the app and tap Scan Now.
- Review results and remove anything flagged.
- Check Privacy Audit if available to find apps with broad permissions.
iPhone: check without a traditional scanner
iOS does not let antivirus apps scan other apps like Windows or Android scanners can.
- Open Settings > General > VPN & Device Management.
- Remove any configuration profile you do not recognize.
- Review installed apps and delete anything you do not remember downloading.
- Open Settings > General > Software Update and install pending updates.
- Review app permissions under Settings > Privacy & Security and remove access that does not match the app.
More control
Scans do not stop scams
A malware scanner will not protect you from typing a password into a phishing page, sharing a code, or believing a scam call. Those are separate safety habits.
Sideloaded Android apps deserve scrutiny
Apps installed from websites, APK files, or third-party stores bypass more of Google’s review. Start there if symptoms began after sideloading.
Do not scan constantly
Play Protect already runs in the background. Run a manual check after unusual behavior or a questionable install.
Rule out ordinary causes
Battery drain and slow performance often come from an aging battery, full storage, bad signal, or a stuck background app rather than malware.
