Wells Fargo Online Banking Login Problems: How to Fix Them

Wells Fargo login problems can come from forgotten credentials, a temporary lock, an identity-verification block, or a browser or app issue. Because this is banking access, the checks are intentionally stricter than an ordinary app login.

Does this affect you?

Use this for Wells Fargo Online at wellsfargo.com or the Wells Fargo Mobile app when your username or password is rejected, identity verification fails, or the account locks after failed attempts.

Reset your username or password

Start here if you are not sure which credential is wrong.

  1. On the Wells Fargo sign-in page, choose Forgot username or password.
  2. Select whether you need the username, password, or both.
  3. Enter the requested identity details, such as Social Security number, account number, ATM or debit card number, and date of birth.
  4. Choose a verification method, such as text, phone call, or email, depending on what is on file.
  5. Enter the code and set a new password if resetting one.
  6. Sign in again and update the saved login in your password manager or browser.

Unlock a locked account

Use this when Wells Fargo says online access is locked after failed attempts.

  1. Wait first if access is not urgent. Some lockouts clear automatically after roughly 24 hours.
  2. If you need access sooner, call the number on the back of your Wells Fargo card or Wells Fargo customer service.
  3. Explain that Wells Fargo Online access is locked.
  4. Be ready to verify full name, address, Social Security number, account number, and recent transaction details.
  5. Ask the representative to unlock online access specifically.
  6. After unlock, change the password if there is any chance the attempts were not yours.

Fix app or browser issues

Try this when the error is generic rather than a clear credential rejection.

  1. Update Wells Fargo Mobile from the App Store or Google Play.
  2. Force-close the app and reopen it, or restart the phone.
  3. On a computer, clear cache and cookies for wellsfargo.com or try a private window.
  4. Try another browser if the current one keeps failing.
  5. Temporarily disable ad blockers or script blockers that may interfere with security checks.
  6. Check whether Wells Fargo has a maintenance or service notice.

More control

Store the username safely

Forgotten usernames are common. Keep it in a password manager along with the password, rather than relying only on autofill.

Use biometric sign-in

Fingerprint or face sign-in in the Wells Fargo Mobile app reduces typing mistakes that can trigger lockouts.

Keep contact details current

Verification codes go to the phone and email on file. Update them before an emergency blocks access.

Avoid phishing links

Do not enter Wells Fargo credentials from an email or text link. Type wellsfargo.com yourself or open the official app.
