Spotify account takeovers usually come from reused passwords leaked somewhere else. The signs are odd playlists, unfamiliar followed artists, music playing on devices you do not own, changed account details, or a password that suddenly fails.
Does this affect you?
Use this for Spotify on iPhone, Android, desktop, web player, Free accounts, and Premium accounts when account activity or profile settings changed without you.
If you can still log in
End every active session before cleaning up playlists and profile details.
- Open Spotify or go to spotify.com and sign in.
- On the web, click your name and open Account.
- Choose Sign out everywhere under Account overview to end all current sessions on every device.
- Go to Edit profile and change the password to a long, unique one not used on any other site.
- Check the account email, linked Facebook or Apple login, display name, and profile photo. Restore anything the attacker changed.
- Review playlists, followed artists, and recently played content. Remove additions you did not make.
If you are locked out
Use Spotify’s reset and compromised-account support route.
- Go to spotify.com/password-reset or tap Forgot password on the login screen.
- Enter the email address on the account and check the inbox and spam folder for the reset link.
- Use the link to set a new password.
- If the attacker changed the email, contact Spotify Support and report a compromised account.
- Be ready to confirm ownership with original sign-up email, subscription history, or billing information.
- After access returns, sign out everywhere and review account details and playlists.
More control
Check connected apps
Open Account > Apps and remove playlist tools, lyric services, or other connected apps you no longer use or recognize. A connected app can sometimes act on the account even after a password change.
Review shared plans
If you manage Premium Family or Duo, open Manage plan and confirm every member is someone you added. A compromised account can be used to add an outsider.
Use unique passwords
Spotify is rarely hacked by attacking Spotify directly. Password reuse from unrelated breaches is far more common, so use a password manager or browser password generator.
