HBO Max sign-in problems may be a wrong password, a stuck app, or confusion between direct HBO Max credentials and a provider-linked subscription. Try the one-time code option before changing too much.

Sign in without your password
A one-time code can bypass password trouble.
- On the HBO Max sign-in screen, look for Get One-Time Code.
- Enter the email address for the account.
- Open the message with the one-time HBO Max code.
- Enter the code before it expires.
- After you are signed in, open Sign-In & Security if you want to set a new password.
Fix a rejected password or stuck sign-in screen
Use these steps if one-time code is unavailable or the app keeps spinning.
- If you use a browser, switch to a supported browser such as Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari.
- Clear cookies for hbomax.com or clear the app cache on the streaming device if available.
- Use Forgot password instead of repeatedly retrying a rejected password.
- Try another device. If the account works there, update the HBO Max app on the TV or streaming box that fails.
- Restart the device after updating the app.
More control
Provider subscriptions sign in differently
If HBO Max comes through a wireless carrier, internet provider, or cable package, choose Sign in with your provider. Use that provider’s credentials instead of a separate HBO Max password.
Find the right email
If you are not sure which email owns the account, search for old HBO Max billing, activation, or welcome messages. Support can help identify an account, but there is no public search by name for privacy reasons.
Account status may need support
If password reset, one-time code, provider sign-in, and app updates all fail, contact HBO Max Help so an agent can check subscription and account status server-side.
