How to Use Midjourney for Free

Midjourney no longer offers unlimited free image generation to every new user. Limited free trials or promotions may appear, but availability changes, so check Midjourney directly before trusting an old guide.

Does this affect you?

Use this if you want to try Midjourney through Discord or the Midjourney website before paying for a plan.

Ways to try Midjourney without a paid plan

These options depend on current Midjourney availability.

  • Check midjourney.com for a limited free trial on your account. If one is active, it usually appears during signup or in account settings.
  • Browse community images on Midjourney’s website or Discord to judge the style before spending trial generations or money.
  • Check whether any current student, educator, or promotional discount exists on the official site.
  • Avoid third-party sites, bots, or Discord servers promising free unlimited Midjourney access. Those are often scams or account-theft attempts.

What to expect once you subscribe

Paid plans are based on generation limits and speed.

  1. Sign up through midjourney.com.
  2. Connect Discord if you want to use the Discord workflow, or use the web interface if available for your account.
  3. Choose a monthly or yearly plan.
  4. Generate images with the /imagine command or the web prompt box.
  5. Watch your plan’s fast generation allowance. When it runs out, generation may slow or queue.
  6. Cancel from subscription settings if you do not want renewal.

More control

Plan prompts before a small trial

If you receive only a limited number of generations, draft several prompt ideas in Notes first. That gives you more useful test images than improvising one prompt at a time.

Browsing the gallery is useful research

Even without generating, the public feed can show whether Midjourney’s default look fits your project. Search by style, subject, or prompt idea.

Consider alternatives for ongoing free use

If cost matters more than Midjourney’s specific style, local Stable Diffusion or other free-tier image generators may fit better long term.
