The official ChatGPT login is at chatgpt.com and in the official ChatGPT apps. If sign-in fails, the most common cause is using the wrong login method, such as typing a password for an account originally created with Google, Microsoft, or Apple.
Does this affect you?
Use this for ChatGPT on the web, iPhone, Android, Windows, or Mac when you need the correct login page or are stuck on sign-in.
Find the real login page and sign in
Use the current official address.
- Go to chatgpt.com, or open the official ChatGPT app. The older chat.openai.com address redirects to the same service.
- Click or tap Log in.
- Enter the email address used for the account and continue.
- Enter your password, or use Continue with Google, Continue with Microsoft, or Continue with Apple if that is how the account was created.
- Enter your two-factor authentication code if prompted.
After login, your previous chats, custom instructions, and settings should appear for that account.
Fix common sign-in problems
Work through these in order.
- Use the same sign-in method you used when creating the account. Social-login accounts do not always have a separate ChatGPT password.
- Clear cache and cookies for chatgpt.com, then reload. This refreshes stale login tokens.
- Try a private or incognito window. If login works there, the normal browser profile has a cookie or extension issue.
- Disable ad blockers, privacy extensions, and script blockers temporarily. Allow cookies for chatgpt.com, auth.openai.com, and help.openai.com.
- Check status.openai.com for an active ChatGPT incident.
- If you use email and password, click Forgot password and follow the reset email.
More control
Social login passwords reset elsewhere
Accounts created with Google, Microsoft, or Apple use that provider for authentication. Reset the Google, Microsoft, or Apple password if needed rather than looking for a separate ChatGPT password.
Work accounts may use SSO
Team, Business, Enterprise, school, or employer accounts may use Continue with SSO or a company-specific login link. If that flow breaks, your organization’s IT admin may need to fix it.
Repeated logouts are usually local
ChatGPT normally keeps you signed in until you log out or clear cookies. Constant logouts often mean the browser clears cookies on exit, an extension blocks the session token, or privacy software removes site data.
