Passwords saved from Safari live in Apple Passwords and iCloud Keychain. You can view or copy them later from your Mac, iPhone, or iPad after authenticating with Touch ID, Face ID, a passcode, or your Mac password.

Use this for Safari on current macOS, iOS, and iPadOS versions when you need to look up a saved login for another device, app, or browser.
View saved passwords on Mac
Current macOS versions include a dedicated Passwords area, while slightly older versions keep the list inside Safari settings.
- Open the Apple menu and choose System Settings.
- Open Passwords. On older macOS versions, open Safari > Settings > Passwords instead.
- Authenticate with Touch ID or your Mac password.
- Use the search field or scroll to find the website.
- Open the entry to view the saved username and password.
- Click the password field and choose Copy if you need to paste it somewhere else.
View saved passwords on iPhone or iPad
The same iCloud Keychain list can appear on your mobile devices.
- On iOS 18 or later, open the Passwords app from the Home Screen or Spotlight. On iOS 17 or earlier, open Settings > Passwords.
- Authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode.
- Tap All, scroll the list, or use Search.
- Tap the website entry.
- Tap the password to reveal it, or touch and hold it to copy.
More control
Export carefully
The Passwords app and settings can export all passwords as a CSV file from the More Options or three-dot menu. That file is plain text, not encrypted. Use it only when moving to another password manager, then delete it securely when the transfer is complete.
Check Security Recommendations
Apple flags weak, reused, and exposed passwords in Security Recommendations. Review those entries first when you want to improve account security.
Share passwords securely
Avoid texting or reading passwords aloud when possible. Use Share Password or AirDrop from the password entry when sharing with someone nearby or in a trusted Apple sharing group.
Turn on iCloud Keychain if the list is empty
If passwords appear on one Apple device but not another, check Settings > your name > iCloud > Passwords and Keychain and make sure syncing is enabled on that device.
