Microsoft Edge Workspaces keep separate sets of tabs in named, color-coded windows. They are useful when work, personal browsing, research, and projects keep merging into one crowded tab row.

Use this for Microsoft Edge on Windows or Mac. You need to be signed into Edge with a Microsoft account so Workspaces can save and sync.
Create a new Workspace
A Workspace starts as its own Edge window and saves tabs as you add them.
- Click the Workspaces icon in the upper-left corner of Edge, near the tab bar. It looks like two overlapping squares.
- Click New Workspace.
- Enter a name, such as Work, Vacation planning, or Client research.
- Pick a color if you want the Workspace to stand out.
- Click Create. Edge opens a new window labeled with that Workspace name and color.
Any tab you open in that window becomes part of the Workspace and is saved automatically.
Switch between Workspaces
Each Workspace keeps its own tabs where you left them.
- Click the Workspaces icon in the upper-left corner.
- Review the list of saved Workspaces.
- Click the Workspace you want.
- Edge opens it in its own window with the saved tabs restored.
You can keep several Workspaces open at once, or close one and reopen it later.
Rename or delete a Workspace
Clean up names and old projects carefully.
- Click the Workspaces icon.
- Right-click the Workspace you want to change.
- Choose Rename to edit the label, or Delete Workspace to remove it.
- Confirm the deletion if Edge asks.
Deleting a Workspace closes and removes its tabs from that Workspace list. Check the tabs before deleting, because they are not meant to be recovered afterward.
More control
Sharing is no longer part of current Workspaces
Older Edge guides mention sharing a Workspace with another person. Microsoft removed Workspace sharing and joining in 2026, so the current feature is personal and single-user. For collaboration, use Teams, Loop, OneDrive, SharePoint, or another shared link list.
Workspaces and tab groups solve different problems
Tab groups bundle tabs inside one browser window and are good for quick organization during a session. Workspaces are full separate windows that sync to your Microsoft account and are better for projects you revisit over days or weeks.
Workspaces follow your Microsoft account
If you sign into Edge with the same Microsoft account on another PC or Mac, the Workspace list should appear there too, ready to reopen with its saved tabs.
