Firefox includes a built-in screenshot tool that can capture a selected area, the visible part of the page, or the full page from top to bottom. That makes it useful when you need more than a normal screen capture but do not want to install an extension.
Does this affect you?
Use this for Firefox on Windows or Mac when you want a clean image of part or all of a web page, including content that would normally require scrolling.
Take a screenshot with Firefox built-in tool
This works on regular web pages.
- Open the page you want to capture.
- Right-click an empty area of the page and choose Take Screenshot. If you do not see it, open the Firefox menu > More tools > Take Screenshot.
- Choose Save visible for what is currently on screen, or Save full page for the entire page.
- To capture a custom area, drag across the page to draw a selection box.
- Click Download to save a PNG file, or Copy to place it on the clipboard.
Use the operating system screenshot shortcut instead
This is a fallback that works in any app.
- On Windows, press Windows+Shift+S and drag with Snipping Tool. The capture is copied to the clipboard.
- On Mac, press Cmd+Shift+4 and drag to select an area. The file saves to the desktop by default.
Operating system screenshots capture what is visible on screen. Firefox full-page capture can include the parts below the fold.
More control
Edit after capture
Some Firefox versions show light editing before download. Otherwise, paste the copied image into Preview, Paint, or another editor to crop or mark it up.
Find downloaded screenshots
Firefox screenshots downloaded from the tool go to the browser default download folder. Check Settings > General > Files and Applications if you need to change that folder.
Shortcut options are limited
Firefox does not always ship with a default keyboard shortcut for the screenshot tool. The right-click or More tools path is reliable for occasional captures.
