How to Save a Web Page as a PDF in Chrome

Chrome can save a web page as a PDF through the built-in print dialog. You do not need a PDF printer app or extension. It works for receipts, articles, forms, boarding passes, recipes, and pages you want to keep or email.

Does this affect you?

Use this for Google Chrome on Windows, Mac, or Chromebook when you want a PDF copy of the current page. Microsoft Edge uses a very similar process.

Save the current page as a PDF

This is the standard print-to-PDF workflow.

  1. Open the page in Chrome.
  2. Press Ctrl+P on Windows or Chromebook, or Cmd+P on Mac. You can also choose Print from the three-dot menu.
  3. Set Destination to Save as PDF.
  4. Check the preview.
  5. Adjust Layout or Pages if you need portrait, landscape, or selected pages only.
  6. Click Save.
  7. Choose a folder, enter a clear file name, and save again.

Include background colors and images

Chrome may omit background graphics by default to save ink.

  1. Open the print dialog with Ctrl+P or Cmd+P.
  2. Set Destination to Save as PDF.
  3. Open More settings.
  4. Enable Background graphics.
  5. Check the preview for colored headers, boxes, or background images.
  6. Click Save and choose a location.

More control

Fix tiny text or cut-off tables

Open More settings and try Landscape, different margins, or a page print-friendly view if the site offers one. A site printer icon can produce a cleaner PDF than the full page layout.

Full page height is included

Chrome PDF saving captures the page content across multiple PDF pages. You do not need to scroll and stitch screenshots together.

Interactive content becomes static

A PDF is a snapshot. Videos, animations, maps, embedded calculators, and other interactive tools will not keep working in the saved file.

Rename similar files

Chrome may use the page title as the file name. For receipts or forms, add a date or clear description before saving so the files are easier to find later.
