Chrome can save debit and credit cards for checkout autofill. Saved cards live in Payment methods settings, where you can add a card manually, edit an expiration date, remove an old card, or turn card saving off entirely.
Does this affect you?
Use this for Google Chrome on Windows, Mac, or Chromebook when you want Chrome to fill payment details at checkout or stop storing card information. Cards can sync across devices when Chrome sync is enabled.
View, add, or edit a saved card
The controls are in Chrome Autofill settings.
- Click the three-dot menu in Chrome.
- Open Settings.
- Choose Autofill and passwords.
- Open Payment methods.
- Click Add to enter a new card number, name, and expiration date.
- Click an existing card to edit details if Chrome allows editing.
- Use the three-dot menu beside a card and choose Remove to delete it.
Turn off saving and autofill for cards
Use this if you prefer typing card details yourself.
- Open Settings > Autofill and passwords > Payment methods.
- Turn off Save and fill payment methods.
- Delete existing saved cards individually if you do not want them stored at all.
Turning off the switch stops Chrome from offering saved cards and asking to save new ones, but it does not automatically delete cards already listed.
More control
Sync affects other devices
If Chrome sync includes payment methods, cards saved on one device can appear on other signed-in Chrome devices. Removing a synced card on one device removes it elsewhere after sync catches up.
Chrome still asks before filling
Chrome does not silently enter a card into checkout fields. It shows a suggestion that you choose before the card details are filled.
Some checkout forms do not work
Custom checkout fields can prevent Chrome from recognizing where card details belong. If one site will not autofill but others do, the site form is probably the issue.
Chrome cards and Google Pay are separate
Cards in Chrome Autofill are related to, but not the same as, Google Wallet or Google Pay cards used for mobile payments. Manage those through Google Wallet or the Google payments settings.
