Frontier Internet Down? How to Check It and Get Back Online

Frontier router and ONT outage lights

Frontier internet can go down because of a wider outage, a fiber line problem, ONT trouble, DSL line issue, router problem, or cabling fault. Checking outage status first keeps you from resetting good equipment.

Does this affect you?

Use this for Frontier Fiber or Frontier DSL/copper service when internet is out, lights are red or off, or browsers will not load.

Check for a Frontier outage

Use mobile data because home Wi-Fi may be down.

  1. Open the MyFrontier app or Frontier outage/status page.
  2. Look for an outage alert tied to your address.
  3. Check account texts or emails for maintenance notices.
  4. Call Frontier support if online tools show nothing; they can check the signal remotely.

Power cycle equipment in the right order

Fiber setups include an ONT plus router; DSL setups use a modem or gateway.

  1. For fiber, find both the ONT and router.
  2. Unplug the router first, then the ONT or DSL modem.
  3. Wait 60 seconds.
  4. Plug the ONT or modem back in first and wait 2 to 3 minutes.
  5. Plug the router back in and wait another 1 to 2 minutes.
  6. Check Internet or WAN light for a solid connected state.

Check ONT and cabling

Lights tell you whether the signal reaches your home.

  1. If the ONT PON/Optical light is off or red, the fiber signal may not be reaching the box.
  2. If ONT lights look normal, reseat the Ethernet cable between ONT and router.
  3. For DSL, check the phone line and required DSL filters.
  4. Swap a spare Ethernet or phone cable if available.
  5. Call support if lights still do not go solid.

More control

Ask for the right next step

If Frontier confirms the fault is theirs, ask whether it needs an outdoor line repair, technician visit, or remote reset.

Ask about credits

Extended outages may qualify for account credit, but you often need to request it. Keep dates and outage duration.

Use a hotspot for basics

A phone hotspot can cover email and essential browsing while waiting, but it will not replace fiber for a whole household.
