
A Wi-Fi analyzer shows nearby networks, channel congestion, and signal strength. It helps you stop guessing about weak spots and pick better router channels or mesh node locations.

Use this if one room has weak Wi-Fi, video calls drop, or you want to know whether neighboring routers are crowding your channel.
Pick an analyzer app
Free tools are enough for normal home troubleshooting.
- Android: Wifi Analyzer-style apps can show live channel graphs and nearby networks.
- iPhone: Apple limits scanning. AirPort Utility can scan after enabling Wi-Fi Scanner in iOS settings; NetSpot-style apps can show simpler views.
- Mac: hold Option, click the Wi-Fi icon, open Wireless Diagnostics, then use Window > Scan.
- Windows: Microsoft Store WiFi Analyzer apps give graphs, or run netsh wlan show networks mode=bssid for text output.
Read the channel graph
The graph shows which channels are crowded.
- Stand near the router and open the channel view.
- Look for overlapping networks on the same channel.
- On 2.4 GHz, prefer channel 1, 6, or 11 because they do not overlap each other.
- On 5 GHz, choose a channel with fewer overlapping networks if your router lets you set one.
- Change the router wireless channel, or leave Auto if your router chooses well.
Walk the house
Room-by-room readings reveal where coverage falls away.
- Note the signal next to the router.
- Walk to each room and check the reading.
- Treat roughly -30 to -50 dBm as excellent, -50 to -60 as good, -60 to -70 as fair, and below -80 as unreliable.
- Use weak readings to choose router, extender, or mesh placement.
More control
Less negative dBm is better
Signal strength in dBm is negative. A -50 dBm signal is stronger than -80 dBm.
iPhone scanning is limited
For full nearby-network and channel details, Android, Mac Wireless Diagnostics, or Windows tools usually show more than iPhone apps.
