Arris and CommScope routers often come from internet providers, so the login address and default credentials can vary by model and by provider. The safest starting point is the sticker on the router itself.
Does this affect you?
Use this if you need to access an Arris router or modem/router gateway to change Wi-Fi settings, check status, or update the admin password.
Find the login address and credentials
Check the device before guessing online defaults.
- Look on the bottom or back label for the admin address, username, and password.
- If no label is readable, try http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.100.1 in a browser while connected to the router.
- Common defaults include username admin with password password. Older Arris/Motorola models may use admin and motorola.
- If the device came from an ISP such as Xfinity, Spectrum, or Cox, check whether the provider requires its own app or website for changes.
Log in and change the admin password
The admin password protects router settings and is separate from the Wi-Fi password.
- Open the router address in a browser.
- Enter the username and password from the label or known default.
- Open Administration, Management, System, or Change Password.
- Set a new strong admin password that is not reused elsewhere.
- Save and log back in with the new password if the router signs you out.
What if the default password does not work
The password may have been changed, locked by the provider, or temporarily blocked after failed attempts.
- Ask whoever set up the router whether they changed the password.
- Wait 5 to 10 minutes if repeated attempts caused a temporary lockout.
- Check your provider app if the router is ISP-managed.
- Use factory reset only as a last resort by holding the recessed reset button for about 10 to 15 seconds.
More control
Factory reset erases Wi-Fi settings
A reset restores label defaults but also removes custom Wi-Fi names, passwords, and router settings. Every device may need to reconnect.
Search by exact model
Arris model numbers such as SB, SBG, or TG families have different manuals and defaults. Use the exact label model when checking support.
