Canon Support Codes 5200 and 6000 both stop printing, but they do not mean the same thing. Code 5200 points to a printhead detection, seating, or failure problem. Code 6000 points to an internal ink absorber or maintenance counter condition.

Fix Support Code 5200
Start with a reset, then check printhead seating if your model allows access.
- Turn the printer off with the power button, wait about 20 seconds, and turn it back on.
- Open the cover and let the carriage move to the center if your model does that while powered on.
- If the printhead is user-removable, lift the lock lever, remove it, and inspect the contacts for tape, dried ink, or debris.
- Clean contacts gently with a dry lint-free cloth, then reinstall the printhead firmly and lock it down.
- Power the printer off and on again. If 5200 returns immediately, the printhead may have failed and may need replacement.
Fix Support Code 6000
This code involves an internal maintenance part or counter, not the visible cartridges.
- Restart the printer first and see whether the code clears.
- Look up your exact model on Canon Support for its ink absorber or Support Code 6000 guidance.
- If the printer is under warranty, contact Canon before attempting resets or internal work.
- For out-of-warranty models, check whether Canon provides a model-specific reset utility or service procedure. Not all models do.

Why 5200 can follow a jam
Clearing a paper jam near the printhead can nudge the head or contacts out of position. That is why 5200 may appear right after a jam even if the printhead did not truly fail.
The ink absorber is not a cartridge
The absorber collects waste ink from cleaning cycles inside the printer. Replacing or refilling cartridges does not clear a true absorber condition.
