RGB Lighting Not Working? How to Fix Keyboards, Fans and Cases

Your RGB keyboard, fans, RAM, motherboard, case strips, or mouse stopped lighting, froze on one color, or will not respond to color changes. This applies to Windows RGB software such as Corsair iCUE, Razer Synapse, Logitech G HUB, ASUS Aura Sync, MSI Mystic Light, and similar tools.

Does This Affect You?

RGB failures usually come from a loose connection, a USB power/data issue, two lighting apps fighting for control, or a driver that did not load after sleep or an update.

Check Connections and Restart Lighting Software

These quick checks fix many dropouts.

  1. For USB peripherals, reconnect directly to a rear motherboard USB port instead of a hub.
  2. Fully close the lighting app from the system tray and reopen it.
  3. Restart the computer so RGB controllers initialize again.
  4. For internal RGB or ARGB components, shut down, unplug the PC, ground yourself, and check that small lighting headers and hub cables are fully seated.
  5. Handle RGB header pins gently; forcing a connector backward can bend pins.

Fix Conflicting RGB Software

More than one app controlling the same device can freeze lighting or turn it off.

  1. Check installed tools such as iCUE, Synapse, G HUB, Aura Sync, Mystic Light, SteelSeries GG, and motherboard utilities.
  2. Use Task Manager Startup apps and the system tray to disable lighting tools you do not actively use.
  3. If you mix brands, look for a passthrough or sync setting so one master app controls shared devices.
  4. If profiles are corrupted, uninstall and reinstall the lighting software from the official download page.

Check Drivers and BIOS Lighting Settings

Use this when software sees the device but the LEDs stay off.

  1. Open Device Manager and check Human Interface Devices and Universal Serial Bus controllers for warning icons.
  2. Uninstall flagged RGB controller or peripheral entries, then reconnect or reinstall the manufacturer software.
  3. Restart into BIOS/UEFI and look for onboard RGB, Aura, Mystic Light, or LED lighting toggles under Advanced or onboard device menus.
  4. Enable the lighting toggle if it was disabled by a BIOS reset or update.

Entering BIOS for a lighting toggle does not affect files, but avoid unrelated settings. We provide no warranty; proceed at your own risk. If several devices on one hub fail together, test one directly on a known-good motherboard header. If one fan, RAM stick, or peripheral fails everywhere while the component otherwise works, the RGB controller inside that part may have failed and may be covered by warranty.
