Edge Lighting shows a colored glow around the edge of a Samsung Galaxy screen when selected notifications arrive. It can catch your eye without fully waking the display and can be customized by app.
These steps apply to Samsung Galaxy phones with One UI. On some flat-screen models, the effect may appear differently or the menu may be missing.
Does This Affect You?
Use this if you want the edge glow on, off, customized, or fixed for apps that are not triggering it.
Turn On Edge Lighting
- Open Settings > Notifications.
- On current One UI, tap Notification pop-up style and choose Brief.
- On older One UI versions, look for Edge lighting under Notifications or Display > Edge screen.
- Tap Choose apps or Apps.
- Turn on the apps that should trigger Edge Lighting.
- Enable screen-on behavior if you want the effect while using the phone.
Customize Color and Style
- Open the Edge Lighting or Brief pop-up settings.
- Open the app list or color settings.
- Tap an app name, not only its toggle, if your phone supports per-app settings.
- Choose a palette color or custom color.
- Pick an effect such as glow or pulse if your model offers styles.
- Repeat for important apps.
Fix Edge Lighting Not Showing
- Confirm the specific app is selected for Edge Lighting.
- Check that the app notifications are not blocked under Settings > Apps > the app > Notifications.
- Check Do Not Disturb and add exceptions if needed.
- Turn on the screen-on option if you expect lighting while actively using the phone.
- Temporarily disable Always On Display to see whether Edge Lighting is blending into it.
- Restart the phone if settings look correct but nothing appears.
Extra Notes
- Edge Lighting uses a small amount of battery per notification; limit it to important apps if alerts are frequent.
- Some One UI versions allow conversation-specific colors inside app notification categories.
- LED notification lights and Edge Lighting are separate settings when a phone has both.
