Pixel Recorder records audio and creates a live searchable transcript at the same time. Transcription happens on the phone, so it can work without Wi-Fi or mobile data for supported languages.
These steps apply to Pixel phones with Recorder installed. Pixel 4 and later support live transcription, and newer Pixels add features such as speaker labels and summaries.
Does This Affect You?
Use this if you want to record a lecture, meeting, interview, voice memo, or conversation and later search the words instead of scrubbing through audio.
Make a Recording
- Open the Recorder app.
- Tap the large red record button.
- Watch the waveform and live transcript as audio is captured.
- Tap pause if you need to stop briefly, then resume within the same recording.
- Tap stop or the check mark when finished.
- The recording saves automatically with a date and time title.
Search, Rename, and Save Important Recordings
- From the Recorder home screen, tap the search icon.
- Type a word or phrase you remember. Recorder searches transcript text, not only file names.
- Open a result to jump to that moment in the audio.
- To rename, open a recording, tap the menu, and choose Rename.
- Tap the star to mark important recordings as favorites or saved items.
Useful Recorder Features
Automatic Summaries
On supported newer Pixels, open a finished recording and look for a Summary tab beside Transcript and Audio. This can create a short recap of long recordings.
Edit Transcript Text
Tap a word in the transcript to correct a mistake. Better transcript text also improves search results inside that recording.
Share Only What You Need
Select part of the transcript and share just that text, or export the matching audio clip instead of sending the entire recording.
Check Backup
Recordings are local unless backup is enabled. Open Recorder settings and check Backup if you want recordings available after switching phones.
