Samsung Galaxy phones can take screenshots with buttons, a palm swipe gesture, voice assistants, and scrolling capture for long pages. Screenshots usually save to the Gallery in a Screenshots album.
These steps apply to Samsung Galaxy S, A, Z, and Note series phones running One UI.
Does This Affect You?
Use this if you need to capture the current screen, save part of a chat, mark up an image, or create a long screenshot of a page that extends below the screen.
Use Side Key and Volume Down
- Open the screen you want to capture.
- Press the Side key and Volume down at the same time.
- Hold for about one second, then release.
- Look for the flash, preview thumbnail, or screenshot toolbar.
If nothing happens, your timing may be slightly off. Press Volume down first, then immediately press the Side key while still holding it.
Use Palm Swipe to Capture
- Open Settings > Advanced features > Motions and gestures.
- Turn on Palm swipe to capture.
- Place the side of your hand against the screen with the pinky edge touching.
- Swipe firmly from one edge of the screen to the other while keeping contact.
A light or partial swipe may not register. Use a steady full-width motion.
Take a Scrolling Screenshot
After a regular screenshot, tap the Scroll capture icon in the toolbar. It looks like a downward arrow. Tap repeatedly or hold it to extend the screenshot down the page, then save when you have captured enough.
Use Voice as a Backup
If Bixby is enabled, say, Hey Bixby, take a screenshot. If Google Assistant is listening, say, Hey Google, take a screenshot. Voice capture is useful when buttons are hard to reach, but it depends on the assistant already being set up.
Find Your Screenshots
Open Gallery > Albums > Screenshots. If it is not there, open My Files and check Pictures > Screenshots. The toolbar after capture also lets you crop, draw, or share immediately.
