Developer Options is a hidden Android settings menu. It includes tools developers use, but normal troubleshooting guides often ask for settings inside it, such as USB debugging or animation scale controls.
These steps apply to Samsung, Pixel, Motorola, and most Android phones running recent Android versions.
Does This Affect You?
Use this if a guide tells you to enable USB debugging, change animation speed, keep the screen awake while charging, or use another advanced Android setting.
Unlock Developer Options
- Open Settings.
- Tap About phone.
- On Samsung, tap Software information.
- Find Build number.
- Tap Build number seven times quickly.
- Enter your PIN, pattern, or password if asked.
- Return to Settings and look near the bottom, under System, or under About phone for Developer options.
The menu stays visible until you turn it off or factory reset the phone.
Common Developer Options
USB Debugging
USB debugging lets a computer communicate with the phone through Android developer tools. Only allow debugging from computers you trust.
Stay Awake
Stay awake keeps the display on while charging. It is useful for testing or a dashboard, but annoying if left on accidentally.
Animation Scale
Window, transition, and animator scale settings can make the phone feel faster by shortening animations. Setting them oddly can make the interface feel broken or abrupt.
Turn It Off or Reset Changes
- Open Developer options.
- Turn off the main toggle at the top to hide or disable the menu.
- Remember that hiding the menu may not undo every setting you changed.
- Reset individual settings or use any reset option at the bottom if your phone provides one.
Troubleshooting Notes
Already a Developer
If the phone says you are already a developer, the menu is already enabled. Search Settings for Developer options.
Carrier Builds Can Behave Differently
Some carrier-customized Samsung phones may ask for extra confirmation or need a restart before tapping Build number works.
Be Conservative
Options such as Don’t keep activities, forced rendering, or advanced Bluetooth controls can create strange behavior. Change only the setting you came for.
