How to Use Safari Profiles on iPhone (Work, School and Personal)

Using Safari Profiles on iPhone illustration

Safari Profiles separate browsing spaces for work, school, personal use, or projects. Each profile can keep its own tabs, Tab Groups, history, cookies, favorites, and extension choices while iCloud passwords remain available.

Safari Profiles require iOS 17 or later.

Does This Affect You?

Use this if work tabs, school sites, and personal browsing are all mixed together and you want cleaner separation inside Safari.

Create a Safari Profile

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Apps, then Safari.
  3. Tap New Profile.
  4. Name the profile, such as Work or School.
  5. Choose an icon and color.
  6. Select a Favorites folder and new-tab behavior.
  7. Tap Done.

Switch Profiles in Safari

  1. Open Safari.
  2. Open the tab view or the More menu, depending on your tab layout.
  3. Tap the current tab group or profile area.
  4. Tap Profile.
  5. Choose the profile you want to use.

Safari switches to that profile’s tabs, favorites, history, and browsing context.

Profile Management Notes

Edit a Profile

Return to Safari settings and select the profile to rename it, change color/icon, or adjust favorites and new-tab settings.

Extensions Per Profile

Safari extensions can be enabled or disabled by profile from Safari extension settings, which is useful for work-only tools.

Deleting Is Permanent

Deleting a profile removes that profile’s tabs, history, favorites, and Tab Groups. Check the profile carefully before confirming.

Sync Across Apple Devices

Profiles can sync to Safari on iPad and Mac when signed into the same Apple account with Safari syncing enabled.
