Autocorrect on iPhone is really several keyboard features working together. You can turn off Auto-Correction while keeping suggestions, spelling checks, capitalization, or other typing help if you still want them.
These settings apply to the built-in keyboard and many third-party keyboards that use iOS keyboard behavior.

Use this if your iPhone keeps replacing names, slang, technical terms, or correctly typed words with something wrong.
Turn Off Auto-Correction
- Open Settings.
- Tap General.
- Tap Keyboard.
- Turn off Auto-Correction.
The keyboard may still suggest or underline words, but it will stop silently replacing them as you type.
Adjust Related Keyboard Features
- Turn off Predictive Text if you do not want the suggestion row above the keyboard.
- Turn off Check Spelling if you do not want red misspelling underlines.
- Turn off Auto-Capitalization if sentence starts should not be capitalized automatically.
- Turn off Smart Punctuation if you do not want straight quotes or hyphens converted automatically.
Each switch works independently, so you can keep the helpful parts and disable only the behavior that bothers you.
Fix Bad Learned Corrections
Reset Keyboard Dictionary
If the keyboard learned the wrong word, open Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Keyboard Dictionary. This clears learned typing corrections without erasing other data.
Use Text Replacement
For names, slang, or special terms, open Settings > General > Keyboard > Text Replacement and add the word as both phrase and shortcut. That teaches iOS to accept it.
Undo a Correction Immediately
If a word changes and you notice right away, tap the small rejection option near the correction or use Shake to Undo if enabled under Accessibility Touch settings.
