Personal Voice lets an iPhone create a synthetic voice that sounds like you after you record a set of short phrases. It is designed especially for people at risk of losing speech who want Live Speech to communicate in a familiar voice.
Personal Voice requires iPhone 12 or later with iOS 17 or later. Recording usually takes 15 to 30 minutes, and processing continues later while the phone is locked and charging.
Does This Affect You?
Use this if you want to preserve your voice for accessibility needs or use typed text with Live Speech in a voice that resembles your own.
Record Your Personal Voice
- Open Settings > Accessibility.
- Tap Personal Voice.
- Tap Create a Personal Voice.
- Read the introduction and continue.
- Move to a quiet room and hold the iPhone about six inches from your mouth.
- Read each phrase naturally and steadily. You can pause and resume if needed.
- After the last phrase, keep the iPhone plugged in, locked, and charging so processing can finish.
- Wait for the notification that the voice is ready.
Use Personal Voice with Live Speech

- Turn on Live Speech.
- Select your Personal Voice under Live Speech voices.
- Triple-click the side button, or use your Accessibility Shortcut, to open the Live Speech typing field.

Personal Voice Notes
Privacy
Apple processes Personal Voice on-device. Your recordings and generated voice are not sent to Apple for server-side processing unless you choose sharing options.
Use on Other Devices
If you want the voice on your own iPad or Mac, enable Share Across Devices for that Personal Voice on devices signed into the same Apple ID.
Recording Quality
Use a quiet room, avoid rushing, and keep a consistent natural tone. Background noise or a rough voice during recording can reduce quality.
Delete a Voice
Open Personal Voice settings, select the voice, and choose Delete Voice if you no longer want it stored.
