You do not need a separate QR scanner app on iPhone. The Camera app recognizes QR codes automatically, and Control Center can hold a dedicated Code Scanner shortcut for frequent use.
QR scanning is built into iOS 11 and later.
Does This Affect You?
Use this if you are trying to open a menu, poster link, Wi-Fi code, contact code, app link, or QR code saved in a screenshot.
Scan with the Camera App
- Open Camera from the Home Screen or Lock Screen.
- Point the camera at the QR code and keep the full code in frame.
- Wait for the yellow link or action banner.
- Tap the banner to open the website, join Wi-Fi, add a contact, or perform the action.
If no banner appears, adjust distance, reduce glare, improve lighting, or clean the camera lens.
Add Code Scanner to Control Center
- Open Settings > Control Center.
- Find Code Scanner.
- Tap the plus button to add it.
- Open Control Center and tap the Code Scanner icon when you want a quick scan.
Other QR Code Tips
Scan a Saved Screenshot
Open the QR image in Photos and touch and hold the code. iOS can often recognize it and show a link or action preview.
Camera Restrictions
If Camera cannot open, check Screen Time allowed apps and any management restrictions. A child or work-managed iPhone may block camera use.
Avoid Extra Scanner Apps
Dedicated QR scanner apps are usually unnecessary now and may request more permissions than a simple scan requires. Camera and Code Scanner cover most normal needs.
