App Store Not Working on iPhone: How to Fix It

App Store not working on iPhone illustration

The App Store can fail because of connection trouble, Apple service outages, expired Apple Account sign-in, low storage, restrictions, wrong date/time, or an iOS version issue.

This guide applies to iOS 17 and iOS 18 for app downloads and updates.

Does This Affect You?

Use these steps if the App Store is blank, will not load, downloads get stuck, or updates fail with an error.

Check Connection and Apple System Status

  1. Open Control Center and confirm Wi-Fi or cellular data is connected.
  2. Load a webpage in Safari to test the internet.
  3. Check Apple’s System Status page from another device if possible.
  4. If App Store services are down, wait for Apple to resolve it before changing settings.

Sign Out and Back In

  1. Open Settings and tap your name.
  2. Scroll down and tap Sign Out.
  3. Enter your Apple Account password if asked and choose what data to keep.
  4. Restart the iPhone.
  5. Sign back in from Settings.
  6. Open the App Store and test the download again.

Free Up Storage

  1. Open Settings > General > iPhone Storage.
  2. If free space is very low, delete unneeded apps, videos, or photos.
  3. Use Offload Unused Apps if it fits your situation.
  4. Try the App Store again after freeing at least a little working room.

Screen Time Restrictions

Open Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions and check iTunes & App Store Purchases. Installing Apps must be allowed.

Stuck Download

Tap the app’s progress ring to pause and resume. If needed, delete the stuck app and reinstall it from the App Store.

Date and Time

Open General > Date & Time and enable Set Automatically so App Store security checks work correctly.

iOS Update

Install a pending iOS update if one is available, especially when app updates require a newer system version.
