Sidecar turns a compatible iPad into an extra Mac display or a tablet-style input surface for apps that support Apple Pencil. It can work wirelessly or over USB for a steadier connection.
Sidecar requires compatible Mac and iPad models signed in with the same Apple Account and running supported macOS and iPadOS versions.

Connect Wirelessly
- Make sure Mac and iPad use the same Apple Account.
- Turn on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on both devices.
- On Mac, open Control Center.
- Click Screen Mirroring.
- Choose the iPad from the list.
- Drag windows onto the iPad as you would with any second display.
- Disconnect from the same Screen Mirroring menu.
Connect with a USB Cable
- Connect the iPad to the Mac with a USB or USB-C cable.
- Tap Trust on iPad if asked and enter the passcode.
- On Mac, open System Settings > Displays.
- Use the Add Display or plus menu and select the iPad.
A wired Sidecar session is often better for drawing or long work sessions because it reduces wireless dropouts and latency.
Sidecar Notes and Fixes
Requirements
Both devices must support Sidecar, use the same Apple Account with two-factor authentication, and have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled. Wireless Sidecar also needs the devices nearby.
iPad Sidebar
Sidecar shows a sidebar on the iPad with modifier keys such as Command, Option, Shift, and Control, plus undo and controls for the menu bar or Dock.
Extend or Mirror
Sidecar normally extends the desktop. To show the same screen on both devices, open Screen Mirroring and choose to mirror the built-in display.
Fix Dropouts
Move devices closer together, reduce Wi-Fi interference, or switch to the USB method for a more stable session.
