
Windows 11 requires TPM 2.0. Many PCs from the last several years already include it as a firmware feature, but it may be disabled in BIOS/UEFI.
This guide applies to PCs that show a TPM requirement warning while checking Windows 11 compatibility.
Does This Affect You?
TPM may be listed as TPM, Intel PTT, AMD fTPM, Firmware TPM, or PSP fTPM depending on the system. Check Windows first before changing BIOS settings.
Check TPM in Windows
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
tpm.mscand press Enter. - If it says the TPM is ready for use and the specification version is 2.0, TPM is already enabled.
- If it says a compatible TPM cannot be found, continue to BIOS/UEFI settings.
Enable TPM in BIOS or UEFI
- Restart and press the setup key as the PC starts, commonly Del, F2, F10, or Esc.
- Look under Security, Advanced, or Trusted Computing.
- On Intel systems, enable Intel Platform Trust Technology or Intel PTT.
- On AMD systems, enable AMD fTPM, AMD PSP fTPM, or Firmware TPM.
- Enable Secure Boot too if Windows 11 compatibility is the goal.
- Save and exit, usually with F10.
Confirm TPM Works
- After Windows restarts, run
tpm.mscagain. - Confirm it says TPM is ready and shows version 2.0.
- Run Microsoft PC Health Check if you are checking full Windows 11 eligibility.
If TPM Is Still Missing
Check Age and CPU
Most mainstream PCs from around 2017 onward support TPM 2.0. Older systems may not have it.
Update BIOS/UEFI
Some motherboard makers added TPM options through firmware updates after Windows 11 launched. Check the manufacturer support page for your exact model.
If Windows 11 Is Not Supported
If the PC truly lacks TPM 2.0 support, the practical options are staying on Windows 10 until support ends or moving to newer hardware.
